Prescription drug abuse is considered the nation’s fastest-growing drug problem. While the illegal use of some drugs (like cocaine) has decreased, new research shows that nearly one-third of individuals aged 12 years and older who used drugs for the first time began by using a prescription drug in a non-medical way.
The Federal Government’s Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention Plan expands on the National Drug Control Strategy to include action in four additional areas:  education, monitoring, proper disposal, and enforcement.
