After I Have completed and passed a course, will I be certified in this area?

Once you complete an ALLEGRA Learning course, you will receive a certificate showing the number of contact hours you have earned. Certification is a national designation that is usually achieved by taking a national certification examination in the specific subject matter or specialty area. Please read more.

Benefits of registration

ALLEGRA Learning collects demographic information through registration so we may better understand and serve the needs of our users. Registration is a one-time process. On subsequent visits, members sign in with their user name and password. Once you have completed your registration, you will have full access to all of ALLEGRA Learning’s content and features.

Can anyone take the courses?

Yes, all health care professionals, consumers, and interested individuals from any field can take continuing education courses on the ALLEGRA Learning site regardless of the status of licensure. To complete the test, you cannot leave the license number field blank, but we are not verifying your licensure information so any data will suffice.

If you are a licensed professional in another field, enter that information. If you have not yet received your license, you may enter “other.” Make sure to pick values from the drop down menus for the license type and license state as well.

Can I use the CE courses to renew my license?

ALLEGRA Learning is accredited through several national accrediting agencies, including the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation, the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors, and the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork. Every state will accept our continuing education courses for the renewal of license for nurses. All health care professionals are responsible for checking ALLEGRA Learning accreditations and ensuring that their particular licensing agency accepts content from the accrediting agencies through which ALLEGRA is accredited. For complete accreditation information about numerous health care specialties, click here.

ALLEGRA Learning’s continuing education (CE) contact hours are generally accepted by most professional health care organizations. However, we do not warrant that all professional organizations and state licensing boards will accept our contact hours. If in doubt, you are advised to contact your professional organization or licensing authority to confirm their acceptance of these contact hours.

CE Broker reporting

ALLEGRA Learning automatically submits your continuing education (CE) contact hours to CE Broker. To ensure your contact hours are submitted, please be sure your state of licensure and correct license information is provided in your registration profile.

CE Broker is the name of Florida’s state-mandated electronic tracking system developed for the Florida Department of Health to help track and facilitate audits of continuing education (CE) credits earned by health care practitioners in Florida and the District of Columbia. For complete information, please click here.

Certificates of completion for certificate programs

If you have registered for a certificate program (such as the Certificate in Gerontology or the Certificate in End-of-Life Care) you will not receive individual certificates of completion for every course. Instead, you will receive a Certificate of Completion once the entire certificate program is complete.

Certificate of completion will not print

After taking your test and passing it by a score of 80% or greater, you must complete an evaluation form. Once this is completed, your course completion information will be provided in “My Courses” under “My Certificates of Completion.” Select “My Certificates of Completion” and then select the course(s) certificates you would like to print.

Certificate program vs certification—what’s the difference?

A certificate program is a specially designed compilation of courses that have been “bundled” together to provide a comprehensive overview of a particular topic. Certificate programs distinguish you as a knowledgeable, skilled, and committed professional in the field of study. The certificate program enhances your professional marketability, builds your skills and competencies, fulfills continuing education requirements for many professionals, and develops an interdisciplinary perspective on the particular subjects in the program.

Certification is a national designation that is usually achieved by taking a national certification examination in the specific subject matter or specialty area. Read more

CONTACT HOURS vs. CEUs

contact hour is a unit of measure that represents an hour of instruction.

continuing education unit (CEU) represents ten contact hours of instruction.

Both a contact hour and a CEU represent participation in an organized educational experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction.

While the two terms tend to be used interchangeably, this is actually incorrect. In the health care profession, the term contact hour(s) is the correct term for continuing education for relicensure.
