Course Description
Two-thirds of adults and one-third of children in the United States are overweight or obese. Left unchecked, the effects of this crisis on the nation’s health, healthcare costs, and productivity could be catastrophic. As a nation, we’re getting more obese every day, many of our children are obese, and our life expectancies are much shorter because of it, despite trying many types of diets, eating less, and moving more.
Purpose / Goal
The outcome of this course is for the learner to describe the extent of obesity in the United States, the difference between being overweight and being obese, the causes of overweight and obesity, the health and economic consequences of obesity, and the pharmaceutical and surgical options for obese individuals.
Course Objectives
Upon completion you will be able to do the following:
- Describe the extent of obesity in the United States.
- Explain the difference between overweight and obese.
- List causes of overweight and obesity.
- Explain the health and economic consequences of obesity.
- Discuss pharmaceutical and surgical options for obese individuals.
- List complementary therapies used in weight management.

Nurses, health care professionals, and interested individuals.
Criteria for Successful Completion
Complete the course post exam (CE Test) with a score of 80% or greater. Complete all fields of the course Evaluation Form.
Certificate of Completion is provided for individual courses once the course post exam is passed per criteria above.
